Swimming Pool maintenance thorugh the year

The summer places different demands for the care of a pool than the winter.   Cold weather with minimal or no use and warm weather mean you need to use different swimming pool care regimes.  Prevention of expensive problems can be achieved by following a few simple guildelines.

Winter

When cold weather is coming, first drain the water from all water lines and replace with anti-freeze.  Make sure the water in the pool is lower than the level indicated for freezing.

Cover the pool. Use a heavy duty cover made especially for the pool to keep out debris and leaves and lessen algae growth.   Ten times the usual chlorine is a good shock treatment to do before closing down the pool.  BE sure to disconnect the swimming pool filter and drain the pump Before putting them away this is a good time to test and clean any ladders, ropes of diving boards.

Safety

For safety small children should not be able to wander in so be sure the pool is protected when no one is around.

Balance

Swimming Pool chemical balance is essential for a well maintained swimming pool.   This means the accurate amount of chemicals, correct ph and alkaline balance, water movement and cleaning

Spring

  1. In the spring when it’s time to open the pool again, first clean off the pool cover and pack it away make sure it is dry.
  2. Flush the anti-freeze out of the pipes
  3. Check the filters to make sure they are clean.
  4. Scrub it with a brush and vacuum the pool after shocking it with pool chlorine granules when the pool has been refilled.
  5. It is good to filter and vacuum for a few days to remove any algae that has formed when the pool was not used.
  6. To make sure the chlorine level is correct and the ph is between 7.0 and 7.6 test the water and add the chlorine at night to get the most effect.
